Asa Griggs Candler, A druggist, met John Stith Pemberton in 1988. He was greatly impressed by the new drink that Pemberton had developed from a brewed coca leaves, caffeine, carbonated water, and sugar. It was a sweet and carbonated drink.
He bought the Coca-Cola recipe from Pemberton completely in 1891 in $2,300. In 1892, he founded Coca-Cola Company and trademarked the brand. At first, the company advertised Coca-Cola as a drink that calms mental and physical fatigue, and cured headaches.

In 1878, he met his dream woman, Lucy Elizabeth Howard. The same year, he got married to her. He had five children with his wife, as mentioned above. In 1919 a tragedy struck, and his wife passed away.
This incident was the last nail in the coffin for his health, which was already declining. He remarried to Mae Little Ragin a widowed public stenographer who has twin daughters from the previous marriage. His marriage with her was unhappy, and he filed for a divorce in June 1924.
