On October 30, 2019, he was succeeded by Robert G. Painter as a CEO, director, and a president of Trimble. This decision was announced by the company’s board of directors and became fully effective on January 4, 2020. In the first day of Trimble’s 2020 fiscal year, Steven became the executive chairman of the board. He is the oldest executive serving currently at the company.
