Austin Butler, who recently have portrayed a lead role in ‘The Bikeriders’ as Benny, had no prior family history in Hollywood.

At 13, he was first approached by a representative of background acting management company at Orange County Fair, who initially helped him to get into the entertainment industry. Right from the start, he enjoyed acting and starts taking acting classes.

Early Austin’s Career Primarily in Teen Sitcoms (Late 2000s):

The early career of Austin was being an extra on Unfabulous and Drake and Josh. As a background actor, he landed his first ever acting job on Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide for two seasons, where he played the role of Zippy Brewster. His elder sister Ashley also worked as a background actress alongside him.

In February 2008, he landed his first ever lead role in a Nickelodeon series, Zoey 101 where he played James Garrett who was a love interest of Zoey (played by Jamie Lynn Spears).

In the start of early 2010s, Butler primarily was acting in a teen-oriented television series. The series that gave him rise, and subsequently expand him into the film industry, were The Carrie Diaries and later The Shannara Chronicles. He shifted from a teen-oriented series when he played a recurring role as chase in the Arrow.

In 2015, he starred in a thriller film, The Intruders. Later on he was featured in a comedy-horror-film Yoga Hosers (2016) opposite to Johnny Depp, Harley Quinn Smith Lily-Rose Depp, and Haley Joel Osment.

Yes, Butler was up for playing Peeta. He auditioned for it, but he never got a callback. Josh Hutcherson got that role. The actor said Josh provided a stellar acting portrayal of Peeta.

2019-Present Major Breakthroughs:

In March 2018, Austin Butler made his Broadway debut in a play “The Iceman Cometh” playing Don Parritt, the “lost boy”. The play did run till July 2018. Everybody who watched the play praised the performances of Austin Butler. It began a new era for this young and talented actor.

Then comes the 2019 when Austin landed his first ever breakthrough role in Quentin Tarantino film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” where he played the role of Manson Family member Tex Watson (a fictional version). He acted alongside
Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie. Although he had a very short running time in the movie, but the critics praised his acting. Butler intense acting was the reason he received multiple awards nominations:

  • Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Acting Ensemble.
  • Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Austin as Elvis:

Tony Stark as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America and Scarlett Johansson as a Black Widow, and Austin Butler as Elvis are irreplaceable.

Elvis (2022) a Baz Luhrmann film in which Butler was the lead character. The actor played the role of Elvis Presley magnificently. He earned $700k for playing the role of Elvis. After the release of Elvis, not only he received praise from the film’s audience but also from the Presley family.

To describe his role as Presley, he stated: “the most intimidating thing I’ve ever done. I honestly didn’t sleep for about two years.”

From 2011 to 2019 Austin was in a relationship with Vanessa Hudgens. She envisioned him playing the role of Elvis Presley. In an interview, he gave her a credit by addressing her as a ‘friend’. Since December 2021, Austin is dating a model, Kaia Gerber.

The role won him BAFTA and Golden Globe Award. Got nominated for the Oscars on top of that. At the end of 2022, Butler hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live.

Austin Presently:

Recently featured on Denis Villeneuve’s science fiction film Dune: Part Two (2024). Taking on the role of Feyd-Rautha younger nephew and heir of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen.

Presently, he has starred in Jeff Nichols 1960s set film The Bikeriders (2023) opposite to Tom Hardy. In the United States, the movie was released on June 21, 2024.

In the upcoming western film of Ari Aster, Eddington, Butler will play a key role opposite to Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, and Emma Stone.
